Machine Shop

The Earth Science Machine Shop is able to complete a number of projects for both instruction and research needs for members of the department. If you’re a member of another department on campus, we may still be able to help you, just ask! You are encouraged to reach out by completing a project request form. Once submitted, Chris will get in touch with you.

Shop Services

• Cutting of raw materials (wood, metal, plastic, etc).
• Machining (Metallic, plastic, ceramic, wood, and various composites).
• Equipment repair, modifications or replacement. 
• Forklift  and pallet jack services (must be requested in advance by emailing Todd and Chris) 
• Materials or equipment ordering (must be requested by emailing Chris. Gateway requests must go through Patricia/Jorge).

Equipment

• Table saw
• Radial saw
• Drill press
• Vertical band saw
• Horizontal band saw
• Metal lathes
• Tree mill
• Wood planer
• Various hand tools
• Metal welder
• Multiple hand tools for cutting, sanding, tightening, etc.

While most of the equipment above is used by Chris, individuals can use the equipment in the shop once they have received documented training for the equipment being used. Specific shop training is also needed so individuals know what to do in the event of an emergency or injury.

Chris maintains the shared lab spaces and their equipment. If a piece of equipment is found not in working order, be sure to notify both Chris and Jaima so they may repair the equipment ASAP. Below is a list of those spaces.
