Anant Hariharan

Anant graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts from Cornell University in 2018, majoring in Geological Sciences and Physics, and received his PhD in 2023 from Brown University, in the department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences. His research uses observations of seismic waves to infer the thermochemical characteristics and evolution of the Earth's upper mantle and to understand the processes underlying the occurrence and behavior of plate tectonics at the Earth's surface. He is interested in the development of seismic imaging methods and the augmentation and improvement of their underlying datasets across a range of frequencies and length-scales. He has particular experience with measuring the propagation speeds of surface waves, minimizing noise in these measurements, and using them to map Earth structure. At UCSB, he works with Professor Zachary Eilon on studies of the oceanic and continental upper mantle.
