My research focuses on computational approaches to the interpretation of paleoclimate records. The integrated analysis of widely distributed paleoclimate records yields important information about the causes and rates of climate change that cannot be obtained by studying these records individually. I am particularly interested in the evolution of Miocene-to-Pleistocene climate as it relates to glacial cycles, orbital forcing, abrupt climate change, the carbon cycle, and deep-ocean circulation. My research group also develops and distributes software to construct probabilistic age models for paleoceanographic data. The analytical techniques I use most frequently are stratigraphic correlation, simple models, Matlab programming, and mathematical tools such as time series analysis, principal component analysis, and computational probability and statistics (e.g., Bayesian analysis).
