We conduct research in diverse regions ranging from the tallest mountain peaks of the Himalayas, the wilderness of Antarctica, to the vast unexplored depths of the ocean floor. Our graduate and undergraduate students participate directly in the excitement of exploring terra incognita. Taught by a distinguished and dedicated faculty (including members of the National Academy of Sciences, and several winners of the UCSB Distinguished Teaching Award), students discover the unfolding planetary drama of which they are part.
Graduate Program
The goal of the Graduate program is to equip budding scientists for their future roles as independent researchers, teachers, and scholars by participation in key innovative research along side our distinguished faculty.
&
We are part of the California Consortium for Inclusive Doctoral Education and the American Geophysical Union Bridge program for increased representation of Hispanics, African Americans, American Indians, Pacific Islanders, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians in geoscience graduate programs.
Undergraduate Program
The goal of the Undergraduate program is to produce graduates with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of science, a firm grasp of geological principles and processes, and an essential toolbox of intellectual and communication skills. Earth Science students are encouraged to take advantage of the Education Abroad Program. Visit the EAP website and choose your destination. http://www.eap.ucsb.edu/academics/Earth-Science
