During the 2020-2021 academic year, Professor Matt Jackson was living in Iceland when the recent Icelandic eruption began at Fagradalsfjall, a volcano in southwest located between capital city of Reykjavik and the international airport. Following a long history of collaborations with faculty at the University of Iceland, this eruption episode segued into another collaborative study between Matt and Dr.Sæmi Halldórsson. The study helps us understand extreme compositional evolution of a magmatic system during an eruption. The study was published in journal Nature and featured in The Current.
