Ken Macdonald elected AAAS Fellow

Professor emeritus Ken Macdonald has been elected a fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Professor Susannah Porter has been chosen to receive this year's UCSB Distinguished Teaching Award for her outstanding teaching and mentoring during the decade that she has been at UCSB.

Professor David Valentine has been awarded a 2013 Leopold Leadership Fellowship.

Toshiro Tanimoto honored at Fall AGU meeting

Professor Toshiro Tanimoto was honored as a newly elected AGU Fellow at the 2012 Fall Meeting of American Geophysical Union. Toshiro's selection came in recognition of his fundamental contributions to seismology that have deepened our understanding of mantle dynamics and solid-fluid Earth interactions.

Erin Burkhart, David Wampler and Eric White will each give a talk at Speakers Club. Erin's talk is entitled "Investigating the Seismic Nucleation Phase of Large Earthquakes Using Teleseismic Data," David's talk is entitled "Tectonic Geomorphology of the Gaviota Coast" and Eric's talk is entitled "Variation in Indian summer monsoon intensity during the penultimate interglacial."
