Active Speleogenesis, Minerals and Microbes: Mission Tunnel, CA

For further information on Mission Tunnel, see Rademacher et al (2003, Environmental Geology, 43: 557-567). Photo Credit: Jordan F. Clark.

The Mission Tunnel (5 km in length) is an ideal natural laboratory to research geochemical, hydrological and microbiological aspects of the subterranean environment. Unlike caves, there are no conservation concerns, and an abundance of active processes.
