One of the members of the South Coast Society of Model Engineers started to build a very large model train layout in his back yard in February 2002. Other members have contributed their own special skills in surveying, electricity, masonry, carpentry, and moving dirt.

The layout models the South Pacific Coast Railway, Santa Cruz Division, as a point-to-point route.
