Report on 2004 Volcanological Society of Sacramento Field Trip
LEADERS: Cathy Busby, Ian Skilling, Steve De Oreo, Dylan Rood and Dave Wagner

The VSSAC trip was a great success, with 55 participants, including at least a dozen students. We camped out for four nights in the high Sierra, and fed everyone on the trip their breakfasts and dinners. The first two nights we camped near Carson Pass. On day 1, everyone got a ride up one of the lift chairs at the Kirkwood Valley ski area, and spent the day traversing the Sentinels, getting great views of the surrounding geology, and examining peperites. The second day was a traverse at Carson Pass, looking at unconformities and discussing paleotopography, and examining block-and-ash flow tuffs, volcaniclastic streamflow deposits and basalt lava flow. The third and fourth nights, we camped at Buckeye Hot Springs near Bridgeport, and enjoyed that very much! The third day in the field was spent up on Sonora Pass, looking at deformation in the Relief Peak Formation, and examining lava flows of the overlying Table Mountain latite. The fourth day in the field was a quick look at the Dardanelles, and then everyone drove home. The list of participants is attached here. I hope you enjoy the photos I took on the trip! Thanks to everyone for making it so much fun. And thanks to El Presidente por Vida Brian Hausback for organizing this really fun grass roots volcanological group. I call it the "laughing club".
