| Before you embark on your UCSB Earth Science career you should first meet with a faculty advisor who will introduce you to the Geology department and develop a detailed study plan tailored to your particular interests. Next you should see the undergraduate assistant to officially declare your major and receive the usual Geology Undergraduate privileges, including a mailbox, an account on the Department server (email, web and file storage space), and a security card for 24-hour access to the computer lab and to Webb hall. | ...at your fingertips Gaucho On-Line Data The GOLD system can be used to: view your class schedule, find open classes, look for classes by major and GE, see your student records, look at your grades, view your BA/RC statement, check your Financial Aid information, and update your student address and phone number. GOLD can be accessed from the Geology MacLab or any NetStation around campus, such as in the library, or the University Center. |
The UCSB Earth Science Department actively encourages and supports undergraduate student research. Many of our undergraduates participate in research projects covering every aspect of the geological sciences. In the past, students have investigated mid-ocean ridges, charted the waters off Antarctica, studied global climate changes recorded in deep-sea drilling cores and studied ancient fossils, just to mention a few. Undergraduates interested in participating in a research project are encouraged to talk with the faculty member working in their area of interest. |
5th Year Masters |
|
The Earth Science Department now offers a Five-Year BS/MA degree program
in Geology and a Five-Year BS/MS degree program in Geophysics. The programs
enable
excellent undergraduates to obtain a master's degree in a time-efficient
manner. |
