Donating

Have you ever considered giving to our Department? This document details why we need your help more than we ever have, which parts of our programs you can help us with, and how to make your donation.

The Department budget has suffered during the years of budget cuts associated with the California recession when our operating budget was cut 57%. In that same time period there was a steep rise in student fees. Now the economy is recovering and student fees have stabilized, but funding has not been restored to pre-recession levels for the department. Consequently, some of our cherished programs are in jeopardy.

Here's where you come in!

You can choose from a range of gift options, all of which will benefit our deserving students.

You can give to the department and specify how you would like your funds used, or allow the department to use your gift where needed most.

Many employers provide matching contributions—some up to a three-to-one match! Check with your employer if you are unsure.

Gifts of $1,000 or more will qualify you as a member of the Chancellor's Council , even if a portion of that gift was a match by your employer.

You can give by check or credit card. You can also pledge via email to Jim Mattinson, the Department Chair, who will personally follow up on your request.

Many other giving opportunities also exist, such as planned gift arrangements that could be beneficial to both you and the Department. Jim Mattinson would be happy to discuss such possibilities with you at your convenience: (805)893-2827.

Specific Current Need

Upgrade for Department Computing Facilities

The Computer Lab is where our students acquire the technology skills that are so vital in today's work place. The use of computers for mapping, data analysis, GIS, and Internet access to data and information resources is a critical activity for our students, and we need to continue upgrading this facility. The lab contains 16 micro-computers and is heavily used by our students and faculty. It is open 24 hours a day. However, the computers are about 7 years old, which makes them too slow to run much of the new software that we want our students to master, or to access the world-wide web in an efficient manner. Our computers are not capable of running the new multimedia software that could enrich our students' learning. Our goal is to increase the number and power of our computers to 24 Power PCs. Campus funds for these upgrades are very limited and we ask for you to consider a donation for this purpose. We estimate our current needs at approximately $45,000.
